Incentives
Rehabilitation of a qualified historic property may be eligible for significant financial benefits:
- Local property tax deferrals for properties designated Raleigh Historic Landmarks
- Federal income tax credits for the rehabilitation of properties listed in the National Register of Historic Places
- Tax advantages through the donation of preservation easements: Capital Area Preservation; Preservation North Carolina
- Stabilized or increased property values
Property Tax Deferral for Local Landmarks
Private-sector owners of residential property may be eligible for financial incentives upon designation of an historic resource. To further preservation goals, local landmark designation may be accompanied by Raleigh and Wake County property tax benefits in the form of a 50% property tax deferral for the owner.
